Highly Recommended Sightseeing Spot Near KL: SKY MIRROR – Surrounding Area Travel Guide

Hello! Malaysia’s election is just around the corner! I’m Aya, a Japanese wife living in Malaysia, hoping for the country to continue developing into a better place.

This time, we’re featuring the sequel to last time’s Sky Mirror, along with sightseeing spots around the area and recommended restaurant recommendations.

Here’s the sightseeing route I took when I visited Sky Mirror the other day. Feel free to use it as a reference!

Suggested itinerary: Afternoon – Sky Mirror → Break at a café → Late afternoon – Eagle watching → Monkey Hill → Night – Firefly viewing → Seafood restaurant

Four tourists jump joyfully at the Sky Mirror Kuala Selangor, with clear reflections visible on the wet salt flat surface.

A row of white heritage shophouses featuring Lumière Café and Master store in Malaysia.

After having a blast at the Sky Mirror, you’ll likely be quite tired, so take a break at LUMIERE, a café just a 2–3 minute walk away! Their pies and pasta are generously loaded with toppings and absolutely delicious. Plus, it’s HALAL-certified.

Since it’s a small café, the food selection appears quite limited, making it ideal for small groups. Also, be aware that items may sell out if you arrive late. These pies were the last two available! I wonder if you can make a reservation in advance?!

Evening eagle watching! From the boat, you’ll spot eagers feeding and flocking, along with seabirds (possibly seagulls). The sight of countless birds flying in formation against the backdrop of the sunset is absolutely stunning!

Depart from the same jetty as the Sky Mirror.

After that, we headed straight to the nearby mountain/hill where monkeys live—Let’s go! If you’re carrying food, the monkeys might snatch it, so please keep it out of sight. And please don’t feed them. These monkeys were even playing with tourists’ water bottles… Since it was getting dark and we were running out of time after finishing the eagle watching, we drove up to the top of the hill and enjoyed the sunset over the sea while keeping an eye on the monkeys.

If you have time, hiking while chatting is also a lot of fun!

View of lush green forest canopy stretching towards the sea, with a red-roofed building visible in the foreground.

It’s a bit hard to tell from the photo, but the sea is on the other side of the mountain. It was cloudy that day, so the sunset wasn’t very visible, but if the weather had been clear, it would have been absolutely stunning! (#^^#) It gets dark quickly once the sun sets, so please be careful!

As the sun sets and darkness falls, it’s time for the next highlight: firefly watching! Departure is from the same jetty used for the Sky Mirror and eagle-feeding experiences.

I tried taking photos of the fireflies, but they completely refused to show up in the pictures… They were sparkling like a Christmas tree, making for an incredibly romantic experience (≧◇≦). Just be aware that there are lots of mosquitoes, so make sure to cover your skin. However, Malaysian mosquitoes are notorious for biting right through your clothes, so be sure to apply plenty of insect repellent spray!

After the firefly watching, head here! Seafood Steamboat Restaurant!!!

Since this area is close to the sea, the seafood here is absolutely delicious! I visited a local favorite spot ☆彡 I went there after the firefly viewing, so it was quite late—around 9 PM, if I remember correctly. But the place was still bustling with people!

Four of us ate until we were stuffed for just RM25 per person!!! So cheap! And that’s without beer.

I got home around 12 o’clock, stuffed after a hearty meal. It turned out to be a fun day trip—visiting Sky Mirror, enjoying delicious food, and leaving with a full stomach. Yay! ✌
