[From April 3, returning Malaysian nationals are subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine. Airport pickups are no longer permitted.]
Defense Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that all Malaysians returning from overseas will be required to undergo 14 days of quarantine at designated centers, effective from April 3.
Whether arriving on a charter flight or a regular scheduled service, all returnees from overseas are subject to the rules, and even family members are not permitted to pick them up at the airport. The Ministry of Health has designated 334 locations across the country as isolation centers.
The government announced that all Malaysian citizens returning to Malaysia by sea, land, or air will be arranged to stay in a three-star hotel for 14 days, with accommodation costs covered by the government.
Those returning to Singapore or Thailand by car or boat from the border will also be subject to a 14-day mandatory quarantine. The government is reportedly seeking a three-star hotel near the airport to serve as a quarantine center for these individuals.
I’ll continue to update this.
Let’s stay calm and fight COVID-19 together. In response to the impact of the novel coronavirus, Malaysia announced a “Movement Control Order” from March 18 to March 31, effective from 10:00 PM on March 16 (11:00 PM Japan Time). In short, this means prohibiting entry for people from outside the country (foreign nationals) and restricting exit for those inside the country (Malaysian citizens).
