Mercure Selangor Selayang [Hotel in Malaysia]

We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by the flooding caused by Typhoon No. 19.

Hello! I’m Ayako, a Japanese wife living in Malaysia. Today, I’m introducing a business hotel located in the northern area of Kuala Lumpur. The northern area? Where is that? It’s about a 30-minute drive from central Kuala Lumpur. To help you visualize the location, if you’re a traveler who is relatively familiar with the area, think of Batu Caves (a Hindu holy site known for its limestone formations said to be 400 million years old). Or, if you’re a resident of Malaysia, it might be easier to understand if I say it’s near Mont Kiara and Desa ParkCity. It’s approximately a 20-minute drive from this hotel to Mont Kiara, and about 25 minutes to Desa ParkCity. If you live in or around Mont Kiara, Desa ParkCity, or nearby areas, and a friend is visiting Malaysia for work, or you find yourself needing to book a hotel urgently, this Mercure-branded hotel is a great option!

<Room>

Modern hotel room with a large bed, purple sofa, and desk area featuring pink and grey decor.

With a business hotel layout, it’s compact and sleek, and even with a desk and sofa, it doesn’t feel cramped.

The carpeted floors help minimize echo. Unlike in Malaysia, where building structures aren’t typically designed with residents’ comfort in mind, sound tends to carry more easily here. The room itself offers a chic, serene atmosphere.

Comes with a mini-fridge, so you can chill your beer too. There’s plenty of space for your laptop, and the chair is comfortable enough to make it a great spot for getting work done.

It also comes equipped with an iron, bathrobes, and a safety deposit box.

The breakfast venue was impressive, but the breakfast itself was typical of what you’d find at a standard business hotel. That said, it was genuinely delicious!

<Gym>

It’s a beautiful gym. Sweating while enjoying the mountain views feels amazing for both body and mind!

There’s also a kids’ room and a meeting room.

Unwind with a refreshing swim after work while gazing at the distant mountains! If the air is clear, you can even catch a glimpse of the Twin Towers. With a roof overhead, you don’t need to worry about the scorching sun or sudden rain.

<Other>

This hotel is adjacent to the mall, but it’s surprisingly quiet… with very few tenants. Still, there are a few restaurants, so it’s fine for a quick bite.

Must-know money-saving Ayah tips:

  • Since this hotel is a mixed-use development that includes regular residential apartments, the elevators tend to get crowded. It’s not uncommon to experience long waits for them.

  • Parking is available, so staying by car is perfectly fine. If you plan to use it, be sure to confirm with the hotel how to handle the parking ticket for guests and the procedure for retrieving it upon checkout.
