Ipoh IPOH Stroll [Travel to Malaysia]

We’ll guide you through Ipoh’s ultra-budget sightseeing tours!

I’m Ayako, a Japanese wife who just had an explosively delicious bowl of bean sprouts in Ipoh.

As a special feature, we’ll continue from our previous blog post about our stay at The Haven Resort Hotel Ipoh All Suites by recommending some must-visit attractions in Ipoh. Ipoh is a popular tourist destination located just about three hours by car from Kuala Lumpur.

Ipoh is gradually becoming a tourist destination for foreigners too, but what are the must-see attractions? Follow me lah!

This time, we’ll guide you through an ultra-budget sightseeing tour!

1-Day Tour Itinerary

Morning: Take a boat to Gunung Lang Recreational Park to enjoy the stunning collaboration view of the beautiful lake and rock formations! This park is highly recommended and has recently grown in popularity among locals too! Hop on an incredibly affordable RM3 boat for a scenic 3-minute crossing to admire the rock mountains from the water. Once there, you can take a leisurely stroll through the lovely park and get up close with the animals (like ostriches and pigeons). Don’t worry—the boats are safe and well-maintained despite the low price!

A boat tour glides across the calm waters of Tasik Puteri in Ipoh, surrounded by lush green hills and tropical vegetation.

Lunch: Head straight to the area in front of Concubine Lane (二奶巷, which literally means “Second Wife Street”—yes, it’s as intriguing as it sounds!). Grab a bite at Thean Chun or Kong Heng, two iconic Ipoh institutions, and indulge in Ipoh’s famous White Coffee, egg pudding, stir-fried bean sprouts, and Kai See Foo Fun (a noodle dish topped with shredded chicken and shrimp). The bean sprouts, stir-fried with sesame oil, are incredibly crunchy and absolutely delicious! If you’re in Ipoh, you simply must try the bean sprouts—they’re a must-eat!

Afterward, we took a leisurely stroll along the Concourse Lane to get some post-meal exercise.

These spring rolls are delicious too!

After that, we visited the cave temples perched on the rocky hills. There are quite a few unique places where the rock formations and temples are seamlessly integrated. Some notable examples include Kek Lok Tong, Sam Poh Tong, and Perak Tong. Interestingly, Sam Poh Tong, Kwan Im Tong, and Kek Lok Tong are all located on the same mountain, Gunung Rapat. You can really feel the weight of history here! It was a temple-filled day!

Night: Let your evening cravings be satisfied at the food stall cluster “Tong Sui Kai”!

After your meal, be sure to indulge in the local specialty: fruit kakigōri (shaved ice)! You’ll find plenty of shops serving this refreshing treat.

Address: Tong Sui Kai, Jln Sultan Ekram, Taman Jubilee, 30300 Ipoh, Perak.

Near the food stall street, you’ll find the “Gerbang Malam - Night Market,” just a short walk away. It’s a great place to experience a local (mostly Malay) night market. During the day and into the evening, the area transforms into a bustling row of regular shop lots, packed with delicious restaurants and Ipoh souvenir shops! You can even enjoy the local specialty, bean sprout chicken, at the restaurant featured in this photo!

Address: Gerbang Malam - Night Market, Jalan Dato Tahwil Azar, Taman Jubilee, 30300 Ipoh, Perak.
