[Eat Nico] Keong Kee Herbal Soup (强记补品) in Pudu

This is a famous and delicious spot known for its herbal soup served in a coconut shell and its pork curry. Using actual coconut shells as bowls is such a quintessential tropical touch! This establishment has been around for over 40 years, and Eric (my husband) says he used to come here often when he was a kid.

Yay!!! I had the chicken herbal soup. It’s a kind of herbal soup you don’t really get to eat much in Japan, but it’s super good for your body. Chinese Malaysians love drinking herbal soup.

Here’s the pork and potato curry! It’s leaner than regular pork, and this curry is delicious and highly recommended. It’s not spicy, so it’s easy to eat.

The soup served in coconut shells is a popular item, so it sells out quickly. Side dishes like vegetables also tend to run out if you arrive late. According to the shop owner, the coconut shell soup is usually gone by around 7 PM on weekends. It seems to last a little longer on weekdays, though.

They say they’ll hold it for you if you call, but please make a firm commitment to definitely go, under the assumption that the reservation will not be cancelled.

Store Name:

Keong Kee Herbal Soup (强记补品) in Pudu (right in front of Shaw Parade Pudu or the Mercure Kuala Lumpur Shaw Parade)

Contact: 03-2142 0304

Address:

Changkat Thambi Dollah, Imbi, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur

Parking:

It’s nearby, but (as of March 2021, RM4), the area is quite chaotic, so I recommend taking the train or using Grab.

Important Notes:

Pudu is a historic commercial hub, brimming with delicious hawker stalls and eateries. It’s conveniently located near the LRT Pudu station.

The surrounding area is undergoing rapid development, yet traditional shops remain nearby. I thought it was quite an impressive place for such a shop to exist.
