Dorsett Hartamas Kuala Lumpur: A Hotel in Malaysia

A hotel located in Mont Kiara, a popular area for Japanese and Korean expatriates. Why not relax and take in the views from the outdoor sky pool?

Hello! I’m Aya, a Japanese expat wife in Malaysia.

Happy New Year! We are already in 2020. This year, we will continue to share information about Malaysia, including relocation, real estate, apartments, hotels, travel, tourism, stays, rentals, and the MM2H program across our various blogs. We appreciate your continued support. Let’s TABINIKO!

The hotel we’re introducing today is located in the Mont Kiara area, about a 22–25-minute drive from downtown Kuala Lumpur. Situated northwest of the city center, this upscale residential neighborhood is dotted with numerous luxury condominiums. The area boasts shopping malls and several international schools, making it a popular choice for expatriates from various countries, including many Japanese residents. In particular, Ben’s Independent Grocer (B.I.G.), a supermarket located within Publika Mall, carries a wide selection of Japanese groceries, which has earned Mont Kiara the nickname “Little Tokyo.” Just next door, in Desa Sri Hartamas and Sri Hartamas, you’ll also find plenty of Japanese restaurants.

The pool on the hotel’s rooftop offers a stunning panoramic view of the Imperial Palace and, beyond it, the skyline of Kuala Lumpur’s city center. The lush greenery surrounding the palace grounds is incredibly soothing. Swimming under the vast blue sky while soaking up the sun feels absolutely refreshing. The facility features separate pools for adults and children, as well as a jacuzzi pool. With its colorful, throne-like chairs and breathtaking city views, this spot is perfectly Instagram-worthy!

This is the jacuzzi pool and the kids’ pool! I can’t wait to let my baby play in it soon!!! And please, let them fall asleep right after (^_-)-☆ On Level 27, you’ll find the sky pool, sky gym, sky kids’ room, and sky restaurant—perfect for endless fun! The spacious adult pool is ideal for a proper swim.

It was a clear, sunny day, so I took the baby, Eric, and my mother-in-law out for some sunbathing. Since my baby still can’t walk, we went for a short stroll when the sun wasn’t too harsh, and it felt absolutely wonderful!!! The skyline of buildings in Mont Kiara really does look like Hong Kong.

You can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the Imperial Palace. Since the general public is usually not allowed inside, if you want to take in the full panorama of the Imperial Palace, we highly recommend viewing it from the rooftop pool of this hotel! From the left side of the photo, you can see the Twin Towers, KL Tower, the TRX106 building in the TRX International Financial District, and the Merdeka PNB118 tower (under construction), which will become the fifth-tallest building in the world. How will Kuala Lumpur’s cityscape continue to transform?

Wow, it’s definitely perfect for Instagram-worthy shots! It’s made of plastic, but the throne-like chair was a fun touch.

■ Room:

“Dorsett Suite”

Hotel room with a large bed, white linens, and a wooden crib for families.

This is the Dorsett Suite where we stayed. In addition to the standard king-size bed, we requested an extra bed and a baby cot. For a parent with small children, this setup was absolutely perfect! If the kids had night wakings, there was a sofa at the back of the room, which provided a convenient space to give them milk or change their diapers.

Thanks to that, both my husband and my mother-in-law slept soundly. Room layout is especially important for families traveling with kids, and we were pleased that the space felt comfortable even with two beds. At 46 square meters, it was truly practical and cozy.

There’s a large closet next to the bedroom. With a baby, you tend to have a lot of luggage, so having a spacious closet is a real lifesaver.

It also comes with a mirror, so you don’t have to worry about crowding in the bathroom. In the Dorset Suite, the back area is the bedroom, the middle section features a hallway with a closet and toilet, and beyond that lies a small living room, plus an additional bathroom—perfect for getting ready comfortably.

In front of the bed, there’s a TV and a work desk. The chair is super comfortable too!

We used this space to give the baby milk and change diapers when they woke up crying at night. It’s incredibly handy to have a spot away from the bed for moments when you’re a couple and one partner wants to sleep while the other prefers to stay up.

The amenities are uniformly presented in Dorsett’s charming packaging. It’s clear that the Dorsett Group places strong emphasis on branding! The Hong Kong-born Dorsett brand has expanded to Hong Kong, Malaysia (KL, Labuan), Singapore, the UK (London), China (Shanghai, Chengdu, Lushan, Wuhan), and Australia (Gold Coast, Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane). The brand consists of three main labels: Dorsett, Silka, and d.collection. Additionally, through strategic partnerships, Japan’s AGORA Hotels, the US’s Diamond Resorts in Las Vegas, and the US’s Trans World Hotels (primarily operating in Europe) are also part of the Dorsett Group.

Since we had a baby with us, the hotel gifted us this outfit set. Our little one absolutely loved it!!! We were also surprised to find that they even provided children’s toothbrushes and slippers. It was truly heartwarming. This is a special perk offered when you book a room under the “Dorsett Hartamas Vibrant Experiences” package, where the hotel arranges a surprise for your stay.

Must-Know Money-Saving Tips

  • This hotel is connected to Hartamas Shopping Centre via a skybridge, making it just a 3-minute walk from the hotel entrance to the bridge. Thanks to the covered walkway, you can cross without getting wet, even in the rain.

  • Hattamas Shopping Center is convenient for both shopping and dining, as it features a variety of restaurants, clothing stores, and a supermarket. I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive selection of wines and beers available in the supermarket, alongside fruits, snack souvenirs, and daily necessities! We enjoyed a second-round gathering at our hotel with beer and snacks in the evening, and had dinner at a Chinese restaurant located within the mall.
