Casa del Rio Melaka: A Hotel in Malaysia

Enjoy a luxurious 5-star stay in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Melaka, Malaysia! Located right by the Melaka River and Jonker Street.

Hello! I’m Aya, a Japanese expat wife.

Woman in black dress on a balcony with a hot tub, overlooking a canal and city skyline.

Finally, it’s time to introduce a hotel in Malaysia’s ancient capital—Malacca! I’ve been meaning to write an article about Malacca for a while now. This UNESCO World Heritage city has thrived for centuries as a bustling hub of international trade. I’m sure many Japanese travelers have already visited Malacca multiple times. So, what’s your impression of this historic Malaysian city? Is it the iconic red-brick “I LOVE MELAKA” sign in front of the main Dutch Square (home to the former Christ Church, now the Malacca History Museum)? The charming Peranakan-style shophouses? The flamboyantly decorated trishaws? The St. Paul’s Church perched atop the hill? The Portuguese-built 16th-century fortress, Porta de Santiago (A’Famosa)? Or the vibrant Jonker Street night market?

Well, this time around, I’m introducing a five-star hotel just a short walk from the Malacca River and Jonker Street: Casa del Rio Melaka. You can enjoy stunning views of the Malacca River right from your room! What kind of hotel is it? Let’s go! TABINIKO!

The Malacca Strait faces west, and since this hotel is also oriented toward the sea, you’re in for a stunning sunset view. The clouds are painted in such beautiful hues! It’s intoxicating to be able to enjoy such a gorgeous sunset away from the city!

■ Room:

<DELUXE LAGO / RIVER VIEW ROOM Studio Suite>

Luxury hotel bathroom with granite vanity, bathtub, and large mirror reflecting the bedroom.

Spacious hotel bedroom with a large bed, floral bedspread, and a mirror reflecting a woman in a black dress.

Here’s the room we stayed in. With its classic decor and lovely interior, it truly felt like a resort hotel. The room had a long layout, and the toilet with a bathtub featured a window that connected to the bedroom. The room size was 50 sqm (538 sqf), and it was very comfortable. From the balcony with a table and chairs, you could see the beautiful Malacca River, which was absolutely refreshing! It was so comfortable.

Even the shampoo and body soap bottles are stylish!! The gorgeous interior instantly boosts my mood (≧▽≦)

Riverfront view of white and red buildings along a wooden pier in Johor Bahru with modern hotels in the background.

The room is spacious, offering unobstructed views of the Malacca River, and most importantly, the Jonker Street shopping district you’re eager to visit is just a short walk away—making it incredibly convenient.

Luxury bathroom shower with mosaic tile wall and marble accents

The bathtub and shower room are separate, and the design is clean and comfortable to use. With a bathtub, you can enjoy a soak, which is pure bliss! Hot water is available, so you can relax and unwind in a warm bath. However, please be aware that if you leave the water running for too long, the temperature will gradually drop. There is no kitchenette, so cooking is not possible.

<Two Bedroom Suite>

There are three types of two-bedroom suites: River Suites, Cheng Ho Suite, and the Melaka Suite with Outdoor Jacuzzi. This time, we’re introducing the Melaka Suite with Outdoor Jacuzzi! This kind of room is amazing! First, the room size is 131 sqm / 1410 sqf, and it has two bedrooms. The master bedroom features one king-size bed, while the second bedroom has two single beds. It can accommodate five adults, or four adults plus two children (aged 11 or under). An extra bed may be required.

Whoa! This is it! An outdoor jacuzzi with views of the Malacca River and St Paul’s Hill!

The thing that really blows me away is this incredibly spacious balcony!!! Three exclamation marks!!! Take a look at this vast, semi-circular area—it’s practically a party venue! It’s truly an unbelievable room; I’ve never seen anything like it before. Especially when you see that outdoor jacuzzi, you’re guaranteed to get super excited! Although it can only accommodate up to five adults, it’s perfect for inviting friends over and enjoying some quality time together.

This room type also comes in two varieties: one facing the courtyard and the other overlooking the Malacca River.

A spacious chair and table on the veranda, perfect for relaxing in style while enjoying views of the Malacca River. I’ve heard rumors lately that visibility along the Malacca River has improved dramatically. I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, so I can’t confirm whether it’s true.

<Gym>

Well-equipped hotel gym featuring treadmills, dumbbells, and exercise balls against green and beige tiled walls with large mirrors.

The gym isn’t huge, but it’s clean and well air-conditioned. If you’re staying at the hotel, make sure to take advantage of its facilities—it’s definitely worth it! Open 24 hours.

<The Library>

It’s tucked away in a corner of the spacious reception area. The photo above shows the entrance. I believe there are books available, but it really feels more like a relaxing lounge.

It’s a spacious area with air conditioning, making it a great spot to escape the scorching heat under the blazing sun!

There’s also a spa. Since it’s the hotel’s spa, I think you can use it with peace of mind. Of course, the prices are higher compared to outside options. If I get the chance in the future, I’d love to try it out.

Just this courtyard alone was enough to keep my shutter clicking non-stop! With its fountain, pond, and beautiful plants, it’s a photographer’s dream. The color palette is rich with Peranakan vibes, creating a warm and incredibly cozy atmosphere!

■ Breakfast:

The local dishes are lined up in an array, all looking incredibly delicious and appetizing. Above is the Lokar noodle station that I absolutely had to try. In addition to Malaysian Lokar cuisine (Malay, Chinese, and Indian), there are also Western-style dishes and Baba Nyonya desserts.

Buffet display featuring fresh fruits like bananas, apples, and watermelon alongside cheese selections.

Diners enjoy a riverside meal at the outdoor terrace of The Majestic Hotel Malacca, overlooking the Malacca River.

With both indoor and outdoor options, enjoying a leisurely breakfast by the riverside is simply the best!
