English Requirements for International Students:English Requirements

According to the regulations set by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, only students who meet the required English proficiency standards are allowed to progress into their main academic programs (Bachelor’s Degree programs).

Students who do not meet the required English proficiency may apply for a student visa on a conditional basis. Upon arrival in Malaysia, they must enroll in APU’s English Language Program (ELP) and subsequently take an approved English proficiency test such as IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or MUET.

Please note that if students fail to achieve the required English proficiency within a maximum period of 12 months, they will not be allowed to progress into the main academic program and will be required to return to their home country.

However, students from English-speaking countries or those holding qualifications taught in English (e.g., IGCSE, A-Levels, IB, American High School Diploma, etc.) may be eligible for exemption from this requirement. To apply for an exemption, students must submit the relevant supporting documents. (As stated on APU’s official website)

Please refer to the English Requirements for the specific English proficiency criteria for each program.

We are an educational migration and study abroad agency, and we also provide support for university applications. Our services include preparing application documents, guiding students through the visa process, and, if needed, offering support for life in Malaysia after arrival.

Next, we’d like to share with you our visit to APU, where the two of us from Tabiniko had the opportunity to tour the campus.

The first university we visited was APU (Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation). As the name suggests, with “Technology” in its name, this university specializes in IT-related fields. We were amazed by the sheer number of computers on campus.

What surprised us the most, however, was the Trading Center, which displays real-time stock market information — it honestly felt like we were inside a stock exchange! We didn’t expect to find such a facility on a university campus. It was truly impressive.

<Courtyard & Cafeteria>

Aerial view of Centre Point shopping mall atrium with international flags, food court seating, and a central green space.

Students walking through a modern atrium decorated with numerous international flags at a Malaysian university campus.

It felt just like the ideal campus life you imagine in Malaysia — a large, open-air atrium with flags from around the world hanging overhead. And, you might spot your country’s flag too! Massive ceiling fans were spinning slowly, adding to the relaxed, tropical atmosphere of this Malaysian university.

<Lecture Room>

Students in a modern computer lab with large screens displaying world maps and data dashboards.

The official name of APU is Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation, and just as its name suggests, it’s a futuristic university with a strong focus on IT and innovation! It honestly felt like stepping into another dimension. The number of computers, the atmosphere of the classrooms — everything was on another level! Many of the classrooms had glass walls, so we could clearly see students working on computers during their lessons.

Modern open-plan office with employees working at desks near large windows overlooking a cityscape.

Classes using computers were being held in many classrooms, and because the walls were made of glass, we were able to clearly observe the lessons in progress.

Modern office interior with employees working at desks and large display screens on the wall.

Modern laboratory interior with glass walls, scientific equipment, and a blue machine.

The campus is fully equipped with machines for woodworking and creative projects, providing students with a hands-on environment to work on a wide range of creations.

Modern open-plan office with glass walls, computer workstations, and blue ergonomic chairs.

Educational robotics exhibit featuring a yellow obstacle course and displays on robot evolution.

There’s even a dedicated classroom for building robots. It really feels like this university is at the forefront of technology and innovation.

Interior view of a modern industrial facility with glass-walled CNC machining rooms and polished checkered flooring.

Here’s one of the glass-walled corridors. Unlike most schools where the classroom walls are solid, APU uses glass walls, giving the entire interior a sleek, modern look. You can clearly see into the classrooms and watch the lessons happening next door. On this floor, both sides of the hallway — and even straight ahead — were all glass, and everywhere we looked, students were engaged in tech-driven lessons using computers and the latest technology.

<Psychology>

Modern office interior with glass meeting table, chairs, and workstations near large windows.

This is the area where students study psychology. The atmosphere here was completely different from the computer labs we saw earlier — this entire floor is dedicated to psychology studies. And it even smelled really nice! (#^.^#)

Tahijiko Centre for Psychology and Well-being wall mural featuring a silhouette head with a brain and colorful concentric lines.

Modern lecture hall with wooden desks and blue chairs, large windows, and a person sitting at a desk near a whiteboard.

There are also standard lecture rooms.

Modern coworking space with glass-walled meeting rooms, orange chairs, and a person walking through the hallway.

Outside the lecture rooms, there were desks and chairs set up for students to study, and we saw many students working on their laptops there.

Modern open-plan office with rows of desks, computers, and bright yellow-green chairs in a professional workspace.

Modern co-working space with rows of desktop computers and ergonomic chairs near large windows.

A group attends a presentation in a studio with a green screen and professional lighting equipment.

There’s also a special classroom with green walls and flooring.

<XR STUDIO>

Modern co-working space with wooden tables, black chairs, and glass walls where people work and take photos.

The XR Studio is a facility equipped with cutting-edge technology for creating next-generation video content and virtual events using XR technologies such as 3D CG, VR, AR, and MR. It’s fully equipped with the latest machines and equipment.

Professional recording studio setup with microphones, pop filters, and headphones visible through a glass partition.

There’s also a room for audio recording.

<TRADING CENTER>

Glass entrance to APU Financial Trading Centre with bull and bear logos, plus a banner for APU BCC and Web3 Innovation Lab.

What surprised me the most during this campus tour was this mini stock exchange. I couldn’t believe a facility like this actually exists inside a university!

To be honest, I’ve never even thought about getting into stocks myself… (;^ω^)

Modern office space with stock market ticker displays, dual monitors, and a decorative astronaut figure.

Stock tickers displaying share prices lined the walls, and there were six clocks showing the time in different countries around the world.

Three people pose in front of a large screen displaying financial stock market charts and data.

The student who showed us around the campus spoke fluent Japanese — I was so surprised!

Large digital display showing cryptocurrency price charts and financial market data in a modern trading environment.

<Auditorium>

Stage decorated with blue and yellow drapes and floral arrangements for an event, with a presentation screen visible.

<Library>

Students studying in a modern library with colorful tiered seating and comfortable lounge chairs.

They even had bean bags around — it really gave off the perfect campus life vibes! Loved it!

Students studying in a modern library with colorful chairs and a large Malaysian flag carpet design.

The library was quite spacious, and many students were studying hard there. I heard that you need to wear proper attire to enter the library — for men, that means a collared shirt and long pants.

Modern interior corridor with concrete pillars and tiled flooring at a Malaysian transit station.

The hallways were wide and open, giving a very spacious feel.

<Graduation Project>

Exhibition display showcasing the WaterPad water harvesting device alongside other innovative sustainable products.

Exhibition of autonomous delivery robots and smart mobility vehicles displayed on white pedestals in a modern building lobby.

Modern exhibition displays featuring product designs and digital interfaces in a bright, polished showroom.

I felt that the graduation projects were of a very high standard.

<Student Visa Center>

Modern library interior with rows of computer workstations and teal walls in a spacious, well-lit study area.

Since the university has over 10,000 students, the Student Visa Center was also quite large, with around 20 service counters. It was impressive!

<Cafeteria>

Korean and Chinese food stalls with neon signs at a modern Malaysian food court counter.

Since there are many students from different countries, the cafeteria offered a wide variety of food, including Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and Western cuisines.

Two young men using a blue self-service kiosk and a yellow Maybank ATM inside a modern building lobby.

You can’t use cash at the cafeteria, so you need to top up a special card using this machine.

Aerial view of a large parking lot filled with cars, surrounded by greenery and urban buildings in the background.

The overall atmosphere of the university was really nice, but if I had to mention one drawback, it would be that the campus isn’t within walking distance from the nearest station. Students usually commute by car or bus, and with over 10,000 students, the number of cars is quite overwhelming.

< Student Accommodation>

There are dormitories on campus. However, since there are so many students, not everyone who wants to stay in the dorms can get a spot. Some students live nearby and commute by bus.

【quad room】

Cozy student dorm room with a single bed, desk, and window view of lush greenery.

Modern hostel kitchenette with wooden counter, bar stools, microwave, and separate shower and toilet rooms.

Four students share a shower, toilet, refrigerator, and microwave in the room.

Bright student dormitory room with a green bed, orange headboard, wooden furniture, and a study desk by the window.

Modern hallway with patterned carpet runner and room number 417 in a Malaysia property.

Modern kitchen with black refrigerator, induction cooktop, and grey cabinets in a property listing.

Cooking is not allowed in the rooms, but there is a shared kitchen where students can prepare their meals.

【Gym】

People exercising on elliptical machines and treadmills in a modern gym with wooden floors and large windows.

There were plenty of machines, and everyone was focused on their workouts.

【Exterior of the Dormitory】

Modern multi-story apartment building with yellow ground-floor signage and a paved courtyard area.

<Exterior of the Campus>

Modern APU building exterior with large white letters and parked cars in front.

The architecture of the building is really impressive.

We were truly impressed by the advanced equipment and facilities everywhere on campus—it’s hard to believe that this university was established 30 years ago. It really felt modern and up-to-date.
