Alam Spa @ ANGGUN BOUTIQUE HOTEL Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur

Malay-style Oil Massage

Hi there! I’m Ayako, a Japanese wife who’s gone from loving durian to absolutely obsessed with cilantro.

This time, as a special edition, we’re sharing our experience at the spa located within the Anggun B Boutique Hotel, which we introduced in our previous post! It’s a so-called “pseudo-spa” model (;^_^A)

As a hotel spa, it’s incredibly affordable, so I highly recommend it.

For the Alam Spa, we highly recommend the Traditional Malay Oil Massage and the Hot Herbal Ball Compress.

Traditional Malay Oil Massage is a traditional Malay-style massage. It uses heated oil, so your entire body feels warm. Hot Herbal Ball Compress is a Thai-style herbal heat therapy. It warms the body using herbal balls wrapped in cotton cloth.

Well, I’m off~!

First, decide what menu item to choose.

For my visit to Alam Spa, I opted for the recommended Traditional Malay Oil Massage and added a Full Body Scrub. To begin, I sipped on a warm cup of ginger tea to warm up my body—getting ready for the spa experience!

If you’re joining the body sculpting class, you’ll be in this room.

First, we’ll get a full-body exfoliation massage at the body scrub. Since it uses salt or similar ingredients, the texture is a bit gritty, but it feels amazing as the dead skin sloughs off! (#^.^#) During the body scrub, your entire body turns white.

Once you’re done, hop into the shower and then move on to the oil massage!

First, you’ll lie on your stomach for a massage covering your entire back, arms, fingertips, and the soles of your feet. Then, you’ll turn onto your back for a massage of the front of your legs, upper body, and a head massage. Finally, you’ll sit up for a gentle stretch.

It might be a bit intense, so please let me know right away if it hurts. Don’t hold back—just scream “Sakit! Sakit!” (which means “painful” in Malay) as loudly as you can!

The oil massage leaves your skin feeling slightly warm, as if circulation is improving. By the end, you’ll feel so light and refreshed that you’ll want to skip around!

Relax and unwind from the daily grind.

Note: Treatments such as oil massages, body scrubs, and hot herbal ball compresses are performed nude, with only paper underwear provided. Female guests will be attended to by female staff, so please rest assured!

With the exception of the Body Club, this room on the top floor is yours.

While Jalan Chan Kat Sum (the street you walk along coming from Bukit Bintang Station) is notorious for aggressive massage touts, this place is located further along on Tengkat Tong Shin Street, so you can enjoy a calm and relaxing massage. The staff are also polite and well-mannered. (^_-)-☆

This is the famously adorable, super-cute cat! She wandered into this spot when she was little and has been living here ever since. What a lucky kitty to have stumbled upon such a great place! When I pointed the camera at her, she struck a perfect pose.

TIPS

  • Spa operating hours: 1:00 PM – 3:30 AM (Since businesses in Malaysia tend to close early, please allow plenty of time for your visit.)

  • We also accept group reservations, so you can enjoy your stay with friends, family, or colleagues.

  • Non-guests are welcome to use the spa facilities.
