Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) would be implemented in Taman Sri Murni, Selayang, within Kuala Lumpur, from April 20 to May 3 for a period of two weeks.

The government has decided to issue a directive under the advice of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The reason is that there were suspected clusters of more than 60 people infected with the coronavirus. It is also stated that this is to control the spread of infection and facilitate testing. The famous Selayang Wet Market, for instance, will continue to operate as usual during designated hours.

The following 8 areas are under lockdown:

Area A: Pusat Bandar Utara 6/3A

Area B: Pusat Bandar Utara 6/3A and 9/3A

Zone C: Pusat Bandar Utara 2/3A

District D: Pusat Bandar Utara 2/3A

E1 Area: Faiz 2 Taman Sri Murni 1/2D

Zone E2: Face 1, Taman Sri Murni 1/2D

E3 Area: Face 3 Taman Sri Murni 1/2B

Area F: Taman Batu View and Taman Batu Hampar

This time, approximately 16,000 residents and businesses are affected. With this measure, Malaysia has implemented an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in a sixth location, in addition to: ① Simpang Renggam in Johor, ② Sungai Lui in the Hulu Langat District of Selangor, ③ City One Plaza on Jalan Munshi Abdullah within the city, ④ Flat Selangor Mansion on Jalan Masjid India in the city, and ⑤ the Malayan Mansion buildings.

It is said that these restricted areas are home to a large number of foreign workers. Iron wire has been wrapped around the entrances of apartment buildings and even the elevators in certain housing estates, preventing access not only to the military and police but also to journalists conducting interviews.

The camp’s population of 16,000 consists of 90% Myanmar nationals, Rohingya people, and UNHCR (The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) refugees. Authorities are reportedly conducting daily tests for 1,500 to 2,000 individuals. As of today, 20 cases have been confirmed and one death has been reported.

Residents can contact the Kuala Lumpur MCO hotline at 03-40267222, or the Sentul Police District Headquarters Control Center at 03-40482212. (Through PETIWI (the association), you can also reach them at 013-680 6666 or 013-688 7777.)

I’ll continue to update this.

Let’s stay calm and fight COVID-19 together. In response to the impact of the novel coronavirus, Malaysia announced a “Movement Control Order” from March 18 to March 31, effective from 10:00 PM on March 16 (11:00 PM Japan Time). In short, this means prohibiting outsiders (foreign nationals) from entering the country and preventing insiders (Malaysian citizens) from leaving.
