[As of 12:00 PM on April 15, the number of infected individuals stands at 5,072, marking a double-digit decline over the past month & analysis of the transmission index]

Malaysia’s coronavirus case count rose by three consecutive days in the hundreds, but on April 15, it surpassed 5,000, reaching 5,072.

The number of coronavirus cases on April 15 was 85.

Cumulative confirmed cases: 5,072

Cumulative deaths: 83

Number of discharged patients: 2,647

Number of hospitalized patients: 2,342 (56 in the ICU, 32 on ventilators)

The current goal is to reduce infectivity. The target for Malaysia’s infectivity figure is 2,033 cases, while the current figure stands at 2,342 cases.

The aim of extending the third-stage Movement Control Order (MCO) from April 15 to April 28 was to reduce the transmission rate.

For Stage 3 MCO, there is no RM1,000 fine for rule violators; instead, immediate [prosecution] will be enforced, so please be careful.

The basic reproduction number (R0, R naught) has dropped to 1. This means that, on average, each infected person transmits the virus to one (or fewer) other person.

In epidemiology,

If R0 < 1, the infection will gradually die out.

When R0 > 1, the infection spreads exponentially, leading to an epidemic. However, it won’t last forever.

Because the number of people getting infected decreases. Some of those infected may pass away, while others recover and potentially develop immunity.

If R0 = 1, the infectious disease becomes endemic.

Updates will continue.

Let’s stay calm and fight COVID-19 together. In response to the impact of the novel coronavirus, Malaysia announced a “Movement Control Order” (MCO) from March 18 to March 31, effective as of 10:00 PM on March 16 (Malaysia Time), which corresponds to 11:00 PM Japan Time. In simple terms, this means that foreigners are prohibited from entering the country, while Malaysian citizens are restricted from leaving the country.
