19AtelierSuites @ Sutera Avenue Kota Kinabalu: A Malaysia Condominium

Near Kota Kinabalu’s bustling downtown area. A brand-new condominium!

Hello!

I’m Ayako, a Japanese wife who’s just visited East Malaysia for the first time.

This time, we’re introducing a brand-new condominium located in the Sutera Avenue area of Kota Kinabalu. It’s super convenient, just about a 5-minute drive from the bustling Gaya Street! It’s also close to the Sunday Market, which we highly recommend (we’ll cover it in detail in our upcoming Kota Kinabalu travel guide). Go, go!

This is the infinity pool on the rooftop of the condominium! Beyond it lies the blue sea and the blue sky—I got to enjoy nature’s breathtaking scenery all to myself! (#^^#)

While infinity pools in Kuala Lumpur condominiums typically offer views of the city skyline, an infinity pool overlooking the azure sea and sky is truly the ultimate luxury!

Inn Kota Kinabalu, condominiums are relatively scarce, making this type of infinity pool a rare find. Plus, since it’s a newly built condo, I had the place to myself when I visited first thing in the morning—so if you’re lucky, you could have the pool entirely to yourself!

Sitting on this stylish bench, gazing at the breathtaking view, and just letting your mind wander is a truly luxurious moment!

Modern white high-rise buildings connected by skybridges in a landscaped courtyard

The condominium consists of two towers, which are connected by a skybridge. The pool is located on top of the right-hand tower!

The interior was beautifully decorated, almost like a showroom! The owner mentioned that they designed it with the tastes of Japanese guests in mind. This 2LDK unit can accommodate up to five people.

The counter-style kitchen features a spacious layout with a generously sized sink, an oven, and a gas stove, making it ideal for both short-stay and long-stay guests. A washing machine is conveniently tucked under the counter, and they’ve even thoughtfully provided detergent and fabric softener—such a nice touch!

Additionally, you’ll find an electric kettle, pots, olive oil, coffee and tea, crackers, mineral water, and more. (If you’re staying for an extended period, please purchase replacements yourself once supplies run out.)

Nearby Information

  • It’s about a 5-minute drive to the bustling Gaya Street in the city center. Don’t miss the Gaya Street Sunday Market (held on Sunday mornings, typically from 6:00 AM to around 1:00 PM as of May 2018)! You’ll find a wide variety of creative souvenirs and handmade items from Kota Kinabalu, such as soaps and decorations. There are also plenty of food and health drinks, including pumpkin juice, soy milk, and honey. Plus, you can discover plants, handcrafted wooden ornaments by artisans, and even ornamental fish! I bought a decorative orangutan head carved from a coconut shell. Please note: During the Sunday Market, parking in the surrounding area gets very full, and illegal street parking will result in a fine. If you’re staying nearby, it’s best to walk or use Grab.

  • The Handicraft Market (often called the Filipino Market) is also just a 5-minute drive away! The night market near the coast is packed with fresh seafood! If you specify how you want it cooked, you can enjoy a luxurious seafood dinner at a very affordable price! (Note: English might be a bit hard to get by in some stalls.)

  • Across the road from this condominium is the modern Imago Shopping Mall. However, since there are no pedestrian crossings and it can be unsafe, it’s advisable to head there by car.

  • Just about 5 km (a 10-minute drive) from Kota Kinabalu International Airport! Excellent accessibility! (Note: You may hear some aircraft noise.)
